Metro's 4th of July Ridership

4th of July used to be one of the busiest days of the year for DC's Metrorail and the system still puts in a place a set of unique rules for the day. But with a couple of exception, ridership has been stagnant the last 20 years. Here's ridership, as best I could find, for the 4th of July every year the system opened.

1985 - Thu Big crowd, largest since opening ~540,000 (if everyone who left came by Metro)

1984 - Wed ~ 470,000+

1983 - Mon - Fewer than in 1984

1982 - Sun      - ???

1981 - Sat - Fewer than in 1980.

1980 - Fri - 250,000-300,000

1979 - Wen - ??? rained but during gas crunch and rides home were free

1978 - Tue - ???

1977 - Mon - 103,012

1976 - Sun - 0 (Metrorail closed for the day)
